The World of the Cairo Genizah

Held in co-operation with the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit this CMJR lecture series aims to present the latest innovative research on a number of key themes of importance to the study of Muslim-Jewish relations within the context of the Cairo Genizah, an important cache of medieval manuscripts in Hebrew script discovered in the late nineteenth century in the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Fustat (Old Cairo).
Lectures will include:
- "The Cairo Genizah: A 120 years of progress" by Dr Ben Outhwaite
- "Why Maimonides? A constant paradigm for the study of Muslim-Jewish Relations" by Dr Daniel Davies.
- "Salām or Shalom? What language teaches us about Muslim-Jewish relations" by Dr Esther-Miriam Wagner
